Fusion Sports was established in 2003 by James Cornford and his Dad, Bill. Both Father and Son are keen inventors and this notion is the main drive behind the company. Fusion Sports prides itself on producing top-quality equipment for sports men and women at all levels.
 
The Cornford family have been making bats for 15 years and it was this which inspired James to set up his own company. In addition to being able to provide custom bats to some of the biggest names in cricket, James has been able to dedicate a considerable amount of time to coming up with new ideas.
 
The first invention from Fusion Sports is The Skyer. It is a very distinctive and totally unique,  two third size, bright orange bat with a springy foam face. It is not to be used to develop batting, but is designed to offer more precision and more power than a normal cricket bat for fielding drills. It will enable training to take place with more pace and intensity than in match situations. It is to be used with one hand allowing the other hand to be used to self-feed the balls or with a baseball glove in order to take returns from the practicing fielders. This means that The Skyer will not only be able to dramatically improve standards of fielding in the modern game, but also reduce fatigue and injury of the coach or player in charge of the practice due to its weight and ease of use. As well as being able to achieve a 7 second hang time with a cricket ball to simulate high catches, The Skyer can also be used for long and short range flat catching and ground fielding. There is also a separate grip area which allows the bottom hand to be used on the bat in order to provide more precision for practice for the very close fielders e.g. silly mid off and short leg.
